Sentoo is the project announced on Monday 25 February 2019 at the
Chapiteau Binkadi, MICA. A new African film activity announced during FESPACO's 26th edition. It is a development residency that will take place in three places annually. Six African projects from six countries will be developed in Senegal, Tunisia and Morocco.

"The idea started in a meeting during Cannes film festival, when we noticed that there's no real cooperation on the ground happening between the African film centres. A call was launched for the film centres who might be interested in a South-South project that aims to support the African filmmakers and the promotion of African Cinemas. We got six positive answers from the founding countries: Tunisia, Morocco,
Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger", explained by Chiraz Latiri, General Director of the Tunisian national film festival (CNCI) which is the managing partner of Sentoo.

Other counterparts of the project are the CCM (Morocco), FOPICA (Senegal), CNCM (Mali), the General Direction of Cinema and Audiovisual at the Ministry of Culture of Burkina Faso and the CNCN (Niger). The residencies are planned to take place in Senegal (24-30 June), Tunisia (7-20 October) and Morocco (End of December).

Latiri clarified the different aspect of the project: "For the first time, Sentoo will be a totally African projects in terms of funding and philosophy of management. All the mentors and trainers helping participants will be African, and the criteria of selecting projects
will focus on the ones that have the more African elements".
The Moroccan programmer and film expert Hicham Falah will be the artistic director of Sentoo project which aims, according to the official press release, to promote the South-South cooperation, especially co-productions between countries in the sub-Saharan Africa and in North Africa.
The project title "Sentoo" lones is a Wolof word that means "aiming for the future", a title that reflects both the project goals and its African roots. The submission for film projects are now open through the website www.sentoosud.tn, and the selected projects will be announced during Cannes film festival next May.
