Here comes Nigeria

More Nigerians have arrived Cannes at the second day of the festival. The list include Mahmood Alli-Balogun, Chief Tom Iredia, and Peter Igho both of the NTA management, Steve Ayorinde of The Punch who is also a member of the prestigious Jury of FIPRESCI, Olumide Iyanda and Andrew Ukoko, a London based Nigerian budding director. The NTA crew is also set to be around, but I am yet to site them.

Nigeria Pavilion improves

Nigeria's Pavilion now has water for visitors who are mainly Nigerians. About five leaflets have been added to the literatures on the stand advertising film festivals in Nigeria, film schools in Nigeria, Nigerian film Corporation and Procedures for foreigners wishing to shoot a film in Nigeria. NTA has also augmented the stand with his full colour flexi-banners.

What are these people doing with dogs?

Kai! Too many dogs! What are these people doing with dogs? That's Olumide Iyanda of Daily Independent, a Cannes first-timer, wondering over the presence of dogs of different sizes, colours and shapes at every nook and crannies of Cannes. That is what a first-timer would ask. Dogs are really many here. What are those dogs doing here or used for by their owners? I, Steve Ayorinde and Olumide discussed and agreed on different possibilities. None of those possibilities are meant for publication.

Accommodation problems

Getting accommodation is the greatest problem facing the Nigerian journalists and delegates here. The hotels are exorbitant and far off from the town. This has resulted in some participants having to leave early for their hotels and missing the real night life of Cannes.

EU to peg mobile charges

The European Union is making progress on efforts to control roaming charges on mobile phone. The agreement was reached yesterday in an effort to reduce the costs for overseas travellers using their phones while abroad. Roaming charge has been set at 0.49 Euro per minute of dialled call and 0.24 Euro per minute of call received with VAT. Though the deal still needs the nod of EU parliament and member countries, it is expected that when finally accented, it would bring a lot of relief to travellers and further bridge communication gap between travellers and their families and associates.
