Harold Marvin SHAW (1877-1926).
Après avoir débuté comme acteur dans un théâtre de San Francisco en 1893, Shaw se tourne vers l'industrie du cinéma en 1909.
Shaw s'installe en Angleterre où il signe comme réalisateur une trentaine de films pour la London Film Company. Parmi ses succès The House of Temperley (1913) et Trilby (1914). [1] Il a aussi fait un film pour le recrutement dans l'armée en guerre, commande du gouvernement britannique: "You" (1916). En 1916, Shaw et Edna Flugrath sa femme signent avec le mogul sudafricain I. W. Schlesinger et sa société African Film Productions. Leur premier projet fut De Voortrekkers (1916), qui se voulait la version sud-africaine The Birth of A Nation (La Naissance d'une Nation) (1915) de D. W. Griffith. Shaw aurait réalisé en Afrique du Sud au moins deux autres films en tant que réalisateur indépendant : The Rose of Rhodesia (1918) et Thoroughbreds All (1918).
Shaw meurt dans un accident de voiture à Los Angeles le 30 janvier 1926 (The Los Angeles Times, 31 janvier 1926, page 12).
